Chihuly, Cupcakes and Chili

Recently our weekends have been pretty low key until this past weekend that is! Ty and Gabby came to visit again and we wish they didn't have to leave. Here is how it all went down...p.s. (it involved a lot of eating)

They arrived after dinner on Friday night and gave us our Christmas gifts (better late than never...). I got some really adorable kitchen gadgets! A yellow utensil crock to match my Kitchenaid mixer, measuring spoons, spoon rest, a whisk, and a travel laundry bag! I didn't take any pics...but I will show you the website pics!! Can I just say this girl knows me really well?!
Saturday morning Gabby and I headed to the VMFA (Virginia Museum of Fine Arts) to see the Chihuly exhibit only to find out tickets were sold out until 4pm :( We decided to purchase tickets for Sunday and just leave. So on our drive back we agreed we should get pedicures. What girl doesn't enjoy that??? On their last visit Gabby and I got manicures for her birthday so we already knew the salon we wanted to go to!
This is the color I chose (It's Genius)! I will spare you a picture of my feet. You're welcome!

We met back up with the boys for lunch (at Qdoba!) They went to the American Civil War Center for the morning.

We did plan out where to go for dinner and so I made reservations for Mansion Five 26. I got the Chicken and Waffles, which came with a side of mac and cheese and collard greens! It was delicious and very filling. It was also snowing during dinner (how romantic...)

YUM!
Loved the interior! Very chic :) Too bad my pictures are terrible. See the website for better ones :P

After dinner we stopped by Frostings bake shop which was featured on Cupcake Wars! I got the milk and cookies one :) Oh and I forgot to mention we matched for the day with our scarves and bubble necklaces. (She borrowed my teal one)

We spent the rest of the evening in and watched Moneyball.

Sunday morning Gabby and I went back to the VMFA to actually see the exhibit this time. IT WAS SO COOL! If you have a chance to get there before it ends on the 10th, then GO! If not, then you will get a glimpse of it here. However, my photos do not compare to the sheer beauty of these sculptures.  It was a pretty short exhibit. It only took us about 30 minutes and we read everything and went fairly slow but it was worth the $20! Enjoy some of my favorites:
YAY!

His ideas drawn out...

WOW!

The Persian Ceiling

Love the simplicity of these basket inspired sculptures!

Love the reflections...glad they used that surface.

Such a great artist!

A (very blurry) picture of Gabby and I

I really wanted to buy the picture on the far right...I mean it was only about $2,500!

They left that afternoon and I fixed cornbread and chili for the Superbowl. We really enjoyed having you two! Can't wait to come to Blacksburg again!

What did you do this weekend? Do you like art museums?

  7. So glad you enjoyed the Chihuly exhibit! I live in the city next to his museum, my husband works by his latest installation by the Space Needle, and I was raised just a couple miles from his school, so I think I take his work too much for granted. It's nice to see others, who don't have such ready accessibility to his art, get so excited over it. :) If you haven't yet, you should try taking a glass blowing class. They're super fun and will really give you an added appreciation for the time and effort that goes into his craft. :)
