When in doubt, paint it Gold

I have been so eager to find my next DIY project. So on my last trip to Michaels, I picked up some gold paint.  I bought Martha Stewart Crafts Multi-Surface Metallic Paint in Gold and Brushed Bronze. I didn't have anything specific in mind that I wanted to turn gold so I looked to Pinterest for some ideas.

Speaking of crafts, I am going to let out a little secret. I have been working on starting up an Etsy Shop. I am not going share my full plan yet but let's just say it involves watercolor and is going to be very customizable! Will hopefully be taking orders before the holidays!

Now onto some pretty things to start the weekend off!

Frames

Dishes

Mason Jars

Pumpkins (for fall)- definitely doing this one!

Furniture

Napkins

Food

And if you really love gold...

Hope you have a Happy Weekend :)

Have you painted anything gold?? What is your favorite brand of gold paint? Share your gold posts with me!

Gabby's Table Makeover

Today's post is going to make your life A LOT easier....if you are a DIYer! Remember when I revamped our hutch and painted it yellow? We spent countless hours sanding, priming, painting, and repeat... I just discovered a product I SERIOUSLY wish I had known about then. Maybe I am late to the party and you can tell me if I am, but if you don't know about Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, then you're welcome!

We went to Christiansburg/Blacksburg this weekend to visit Ty and Gabby. One of our highlights was going to a place called Black Dog Salvage. They just so happen to sell this paint and Gabby bought some to paint a small table she has.

And of course I had to document it so I could give you a before and after! Gabby's table is a combination of Annie Sloan Duck Egg Blue, Pure White and Dark Wax. She wanted a more vintage look so after applying the dark wax (with a soft cloth), she used a fine sand paper to allow some of the black to show through.
Before

After 1st coat: (the cloudy sky made the color look more grey than it was)

After 2nd coat: (still wet, thats why the coat doesn't look smooth)

Doesn't it look amazing?? Who knew furniture makeovers could be so easy? I love that this piece is now unique to her and looks great the way she styled it!

(If you don't want a distressed look, they also offer a clear wax.)

So what separates this paint from the rest?? There is NO prep work! You don't have to sand or strip paint/finish off the furniture. Just get a good quality brush and a drop cloth. You can paint it on wood, metal, concrete, plastic and much more. And to make it EVEN better, it dries really fast so you can be done in a few hours unless you are overly ambitious painting something really big!

**Check out the website for even more reasons to use this paint!

Now I have to find something else to paint! These are the colors they offer but you can customize it by mixing (like Gabby did). My favorites are French Linen, Versailles, Provence, Florence, and Paris Grey. Which ones do you like??

**These opinions are my own. I was not asked to review this product nor did I receive compensation for it.**

Here are some other great finds from Black Dog Salvage:

I dream of a porch swing like this...

Love being near Blacksburg...so much Hokie spirit

Teal brick :) love the faux mantle and crab painting

Teal chair- need 4 of these for my dining room!

Where there's teal, I will find it!

Love this grey and yellow set up

The crates I almost bought for my shoe storage idea...

A similar factory cart table but for $895!! WOAH

*I have been working on some blog updates and I want to share them with you. I have a new and improved ABOUT ME page. If you want one like it, let me know and I am sure we can work something out! ALSO, I added a button on my left sidebar for my DESIGN SERVICES. You can now purchase mood boards directly through the Paypal button The page also gives a break down of what's included in the price and includes many examples of previous boards.*

I shared this post a while back as a guest post over on Jackie's blog but I just loved it too much not to share it on my own space. And I also wanted it to be a REMINDER that the design in your home link-up is still open. We extended it for another month so be sure to add your room or house tour and it could be featured right here!!

Rules:
1) Please follow your host (Designer in Teal) and co-host (Jade and Oak) via Bloglovin.
2) Please only link up your own work. You can show off a bedroom, living room, bathroom, kitchen, etc. You get the idea. Exteriors/patios are also welcome!
3) Have FUN!

When designing a space there are a lot of layers to making it feel like home. So I want to share a few ways with you on how to finish your space.

Some areas to focus on in your living room/den are bookshelves and coffee/end tables. Yes they are supposed to be functional but they can also be pretty stylish.

Another area to quickly spruce up is your kitchen. You don't want to go adding a bunch of useless things that clutter up your counter space but thats what shelves are for! Or if you are going to put something on the counter, make it something pretty and functional like vintage canisters.

And finally one of the most overlooked places: the entryway! A mirror can help make a narrow hallway feel larger and its always nice to have a console to drop your keys on.

So, are you ready to go and make your house a home? I hope you have enjoyed my detail inspiration :) Thanks for having me, Jackie!

Tangerine Hues {Design Collaboration}

I'm back!! It's been a while but I have missed you all! Hope you enjoy this "minty" post and come back later to celebrate my blogiversary!!

Its time for the July Mood board collaboration!!
 Details:
Every month we will rotate choosing a color inspiration photo and all create a board based on it. It can be interior design, graphic design, fashion, etc. We will each post the boards on our blogs on the same day. Hopefully you will enjoy these inspiration filled posts. I know I am interested to see everyone's different styles and interpretations. You can click on the links to their blogs to see a full list of resources!

This month I got to choose our color palette! Mint and Orange look amazing together and I love the added touch of yellow in this inspiration photo. Mint is a VERY popular color right now especially in kitchens. My kitchen has teal and yellow accents and I love how sunny it is. I decided to create a board for a casual dining space with some kitchen accessories. Since so many kitchens are open concept now or have an eat-in area they should feel like one cohesive space.

This has definitely become my favorite design board. It is going to be filed away for my dream home!!

{Carissa from Carissa Miss} for me this picture just sang kitchen! {maybe it's because i have mint and yellow in mine} I just had to share some of my latest loves for kitchen accessories. i'm hoping to actually get some art up on the walls in my house, so if it is a little art-heavy that's why! after the kids' rooms are done then i'm planning on finishing the art in our entry-way makeover, and then FINALLY i can get to decorating the rest of the kitchen. come visit carissamiss.com to see sources!

{Amy from The Blissful Bee}
There is no better match than mint and orange! I had so much fun designing my pretend living room that it seriously made me want to add these colors into my own living space.

{Lizzie from Living Pretty}
I totally indulged myself with this challenge and made myself an office space. I don't have room for a real office in my house, but if I did it might look something like this - eclectic, fun and girly. Visit me at livingprettyblog.com for sources.

{Sarah from This Sarah Loves}
These colors inspired me to create a restful guest room mood board. I love the idea of mismatched nightstands - updating an old curvy dresser in fresh mint for one side and a more masculine grey desk for the other side. I would use lots of white to keep things fresh & raw wood to bring nature in. Add in some fun colorful art & a whimsical bronze rhino for a guest room that doesn't take itself too seriously. Lauren's Boho Bedroom

I am excited to share today's mood board with you. Veronica asked if I wanted to assist her in designing Lauren's home. Hop on over and see Veronica's awesome design for Lauren's living room and kitchen. I jumped at the offer to work on the Master Bedroom. Its such an important area in your home and it shouldn't be neglected. Although it won't be a public area that your guests will see, you should still make it a sanctuary and a happy place. What is a must have for your master retreat?

So what is Lauren's design style?

Earthy, Boho, neutral colors with green and blue accents. I also like pops of color though I'm not sure how to make that "work." I like burlap and linen. I also like navajo/aztec inspired prints on rugs and pottery. I like indoor plants and pottery or wooden pieces. I'm marring a geologist, so we also like rocks (like the agate coasters at Williams Sonoma). We also like maps. Vintage pieces are great! I'm willing to paint or re-furbish furniture however I like the pieces of furniture I found at Pottery Barn most of all but it's more than I was hoping to spend.

I was inspired by these images on her Pinterest board.

I wanted to create a unique space for Lauren but still stick to her budget. She is after all going to design an entire house. The bedding is screen printed by hand and quilted in India. I love the saturated hues...it's like artwork for your bed! The vases will be a great place to add some fresh flowers. The distressed wall cube can serve as a display for some vintage items or maybe even agate. The gold mirror and nightstand are airy and balance all of the wood and jute. The trunk is great for the end of the bed to store extra linens and pillows. And who doesn't love a pouf??
